What are Facial peel treatments?

Did you know that our skin is the body’s largest and most complicated organ?  Not only is it protective and strong, but it can also heal itself.  However, constant exposure to free radicals can severely damage our skin.  These free radicals can either be produced in the body through natural biological processes or introduced from an outside source, like tobacco smoke, sun exposure, toxins, and pollutants.

What You Need to Know About Facial Peels

When performed by a professional skincare specialist, a chemical peel improves the skin’s tone, texture, and appearance.  Chemical peels remove the top layer of skin to promote the growth of new skin cells while eradicating the dead ones.  The new cells produce a healthy glow to the skin’s appearance.

Three different chemical peels are available:  light, medium, and deep.  They all provide a specialized level of treatment for the skin.  Your  professional skin specialist will collaborate with you to determine which treatment is right for your skincare goals.

How Do Facial Peels Work?

Prior to applying a chemical peel, the face is thoroughly cleansed to remove excess oils and dirt from the skin’s surface.  Depending on the type of Facial Peel, a solution of glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid will be used.

An acidic solution is used to help lower the pH levels in the skin cells.  This stimulates the loosening of dead skin cells during the exfoliation process.  The skin cells underneath the epidermis layer (known as the dermis layer) are signaled to motivate new growth, produce collagen, and boost strength and elasticity.
